Blackpool for Seaside Fun
July 6th 2008 05:01
Blackpool. It's one of England's prototypical holiday spots - historically tacky, but in such an open and unpretentious way, you have to love it.
Lancashire hardly conjures up images of beaches, but getting to the seaside is something Brits have enjoyed since the Industrial Revolution gave them something to escape from. (That's my theory, anyway).
Blackpool's attractions vary seasonally. One year in the spring we happened upon an international ballroom dance competition - 40,000 dollar gowns, glitz, bling, and fun.
It's not for everyone, but Blackpool is authentically British.
(The Brits go to Spain).
