No cheese rolling this year?

March 16th 2010 22:36
Alas, the annual cheese rolling festival in Coopers Hill, Gloucestershire, set for May 31st was called off for health and safety reasons, a victim of its own success. Is it because Robbie Coltrane featured cheese rolling in his TV series, B-Road Britain? No, that can't be. Robbie was rolling Stilton, a smellier cheese than the Double Gloucester. There's a world of difference.

But there's hope for Coopers Hill in any event, according to the BBC.

Bid to save Gloucestershire cheese-rolling event

Perhaps with seat belts, helmets, and a hunting ban, the cheese rolling will be allowed to go ahead. We await further developments.
