Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Wisley, Just Southwest of London
April 3rd 2008 04:11
See some of England's finest gardens and advances in horticulture at Wisley, a short drive from London.
Covering 240 acres (97 hectares), Wisley is a wanderer's paradise. There are lawns like velvet, splashes of carefully selected colours, new plants being tested, and a wealth of expertise in the book shop to add to what is growing indoors and out.
The gardens are just south of exit 10 of the M25, on the A3. By public transit, the best bet is to get one of the bus services with a stop at Wisley. See the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) website for more information about these services, to be sure of having current information.
There are facilities here to support a day trip - food, shop, plant shop, washrooms, and places to shelter if it rains.
Wheelchair accessible.
Wisley is for the gardener as well as the casual viewer. It is meant to be both instructive and delightful, and succeeds in doing both beautifully.
