Sheffield, Home of The Full Monty

Sheffield is England's third largest city, according to the notes provided by Paolo Margari, who took this picture. Who knew? I wouldn't have got that right.
South Yorkshire - all of Yorkshire - is an enigma. It is exceedingly beautiful, and the broad Yorkshire accent strikes my ear as warm and soothing. Maybe because the only words I've heard spoken in that dialect have been kind ones. But life in the cities seems so hard.
My impression of Sheffield is largely based on the film, The Full Monty. Unemployed men trying to make ends meet, and keeping depression out. Oh - I love the film, and it's got lots of laughs, but the premise is a sad one. This photo reminds me of one of the points in the film where the reality of the situation hits home.
I don't think the place is grim, but to me Sheffield suggests a kind of short-end-of-the-stick feeling, good people getting a little less than what seems fair.
It's just fanciful romanticism on my part, isn't it?
Better to leave that behind and instead go up for a football game. I hear they have a few lads who can kick the ball around. Sheffield F.C. - the World's First Football Club
