Stone Circle at Castlerigg in the Lake District
July 5th 2009 04:17
England's Lake District is renowned for its beautiful scenery, as this photo by Katherine Davis has captured so well.
The stone circles are ancient and as mysterious as Stonehenge, remnants of a long-ago time.
Cumbria is the county in which the Lake District, including this stone circle and others, is located. It's the most north-east corner of England. The nearest town of any size is Keswick.
The Cumbrian tourist office, VisitCumbria.com says this stone circle dates from about 3000 B.C. and is probably one of Britain's oldest.
